Rave: NYC's Calorie Posting Regulation

Do you want the 320 calorie donut or the 400 calorie muffin?

I flew out of JFK this last August, and stopped by one of the airport's Dunkin Donut stands for a cup of coffee.  To amuse myself, I checked out the menu, and was in for a surprise: below every item on the menu was the calorie count for that item.

If I had been tempted to grab a quick donut, seeing the calories sure would have changed my mind.  It was cool to see which items were higher in calories and which were lower (you would be surprised).  A gooey glazed donut was pretty high in the triple digits, while a tasty looking coconut donut was low at something like 90 calories.

New York City has new regulations that began in July of 2008, requiring restaurants with 15 or more branches nationally to post their calorie counts.

I love that people have the option of being aware of how many calories they are consuming.  Things like this just might help more people make healthier decisions.
